Backup Camera Transition

I have labelled the backup camera as an issue on my blog; however, according to Audi technician at Audi Tyson's support center this is not a issue but a "feature."  Here is the problem:

  1. When I put the vehicle in reverse then the backup camera shows up in the virtual cockpit as expected
  2. After transitioning from reverse to drive the backup camera does not go away in the virtual cockpit which seems odd or a glitch in the software.

  3. After transitioning from reverse to park the backup camera does not go away in the virtual cockpit which seems odd or a glitch in the software.

  4. One time I put the vehicle in reverse and the back up camera did not show up in the virtual cockpit.  This is definitely a bug.
The Audi technician told me that this is a feature not a bug (minus the one time it don't work at all).  When you transition from reverse to drive the backup camera will be removed from the virtual cockpit once the vehicle hits 5 mph.  The reason is to further assist in parking assuming you transitioned to drive to move forward and then backup again.  I kind of understand the logic; however, I have used other vehicles that have backup cameras and none of them work in this manner.  When you transition from reverse to drive the backup camera goes away.  The reason this "feature" is odd to me is because when I transition from reverse to drive and I still see the backup camera on the virtual cockpit it makes me think I am still in reverse.  Again, maybe this is just a preference but it seems funny to me.  Hopefully, someone from Audi will see this blog and update the virtual cockpit to allow users to control this "feature."

Audi side assist: currently unavailable.

Over the pass two weeks I have been running into issues with the side sensors being disabled.  I received the following error on my virtual cockpit stating:  "Audi side assist:  currently unavailable.  Sensor vision restricted due to surroundings.  See owner's manual."

The vehicle is 4 weeks old and should not be having this type of issue.  I researched online and noticed that older versions of Audi A4 had these issues but I could not finding anything on the 2016 Audi TT because it is so new.  The issue typically occurs 10 - 15 minutes into my ride and the sensor on the mirrors stop working and I get this message.  I tried going through the virtual cockpit to re-enable the sensors but the option is grayed out.  The only option that work is turning off the vehicle and restarting the car; however, that only works for about 10 - 15 minutes before it disables again.  The issue occurs in heavy traffic, light traffic, no traffic, car cleaned, not cleaned, rain, or clear weather.  Over the last couple of days, I have noticed that I don't get the warning but the sensors are not working.  This is obviously a safety issue if you are using the sensors for blind spots.

I took the vehicle in to the Tyson's Corner Audi Service station on 3/29/2016 and looked into the problem.  They stated that they can definitely see that there is an issue and believe it is a hardware issue with the sensors and not software related.  However, because the 2016 model is so new they don't know how to repair the issue so the are going to completely replace both sensor modules.  The parts should come in next week and they said it will take three hours to replace.  I will let everyone know if the repair fixes the issue and how long it actually takes to resolve.  Of course everything is covered under warranty.

New 2016 Audi TT

February 28, 2016 I purchased my new 2016 Audi TT.  I fell in love with this car in 2001 when an army buddy and I rented an Audi TT and drove from Bad Aibling Germany to Milan Italy during spring break.
